Second Day

  • Locally guided trip to Garcia D’Avila’s Castle, The Sapiranga Reserve, Imbassai Beach and Dune Reserve of Santo Antonio

Leave from the hotel to visit the ruins of Garcia d’Avila’s castle: one of the oldest portuguese structures of colonial Brazil; part of Brazilian culture and heritage; seat of the largest estate in the world; unique example of a medieval castle in the Americas.

After this we leave for the Sapiranga Reserve, with 600 hectares of Secondary Atlantic Forest, where we will take a 15 minute walk and can observe animals that may venture onto the path, as well as species of plants used by the natives as medicines and for other uses. Also within the reserve, it’s possible to bathe in the refreshing waters and waterfalls of the Pojuca River.

We leave the reserve in the direction of Imbassai, a village on the banks of the River Imabassai, that runs parallel to the sea in a north/south direction. At the mouth of the river there is a concentration of huts, situated amongst the dunes, between the river and the sea. Here, we have lunch (not included) and relax. Having rested, we move on to the town of Santo Antonio, which lies between the dunes and the sea, where we can see the beautiful straw handicrafts, produced by the local women.

Duration: 7 hours
Maximum: 3 people
Bring: Sun cream, light clothes, swimming costume, sunglasses and hat.

Third Day

  • City tour of historical and panoramic Salvador

City Tour (full day) to see the city of Salvador, visiting: the church of Bonfin, Mont Serrat Fort, the market of Saint Joaquim, the Mercado Moderno tourist market, the Lacerda Elevator, Praca Municipal, Praca de Se, Terreiro (square) de Jesus, the church and convent of the third order of Saint Francis and the house of Jorge Amado, a famous Bahian writer.

Then stop for lunch (not included) before visiting  the (dyke?) of Toróró,  the light of Barra, and Orla.

Return to hotel.

Fourth Day

  • Trip to Mangue Seco

Travel 2 hours to Pontal, then take a 20 minute boat ride, crossing one of the biggest areas of preserved mangrove in Brazil, until you reach Mangue Seco, at the extreme North East of the state, on the border with the Sergipe state, between the Real river and the Atlantic Ocean. Upon reaching the village of Mangue Seco, a rustic fishing village, that serves as the setting for Jorge Amado’s novel ‘Tieta do Agreste’, we take a buggy trip across the fine white sand dunes that shift as the wind blows. Stop at the beach huts for a refreshing bathe and rest. Return to the town where we have lunch in a restaurant serving typical local food. Return to the hotel.

Included: transfer, boat crossing, buggy trip and guide.
Bring: Sun cream, light clothes, swimming costume, sunglasses and hat.
